Pepperdine University honored two graduates at its 28th alumni banquet.
Tom Craven, director of technical development for Walt Disney, was named alumnus of the year. Craven, who earned a bachelor’s degree in speech and drama in 1964 and a master’s in theater arts in 1969, designs live stage shows for Disney amusement parks. He also developed the first fireworks display for Disneyland’s electric light parade.
Pepperdine men’s volleyball coach Marv Dunphy was chosen as young alumnus of the year. Dunphy has been named head coach of the 1988 U.S. Olympic men’s volleyball team. He earned a Pepperdine bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in 1974.
Howard A. White, who concluded his seven-year term as Pepperdine president in April, received the Alumni Service Award.
