Lakers Tap Pac-10 Player of Year
NEW YORK — The world champion Los Angeles Lakers today selected 6-9 forward A. C. Green of Oregon State with the 23rd pick in the National Basketball Assn. draft. Green, who was the Pac-10 Player of the Year as a junior, averaged 19 points and nine rebounds a game last year.
Benoit Benjamin, a 7-0 center from Creighton, was the No. 3 pick by the Los Angeles Clippers. Benjamin, an eligible underclassman, ranks as the third-leading shot blocker in NCAA history behind Houston Rocket stars Akeem Olajuwon and Ralph Sampson. He averaged 21.5 points and 14.1 rebounds last season.
