Irvine : 2nd Hearing Set in Case Against Defunct Builder
A Municipal Court judge Monday set a date for a second hearing in a multiple-count felony case against the president and the secretary-treasurer of a bankrupt Irvine development firm.
Central Orange County Municipal Judge B. Tam Nomoto ordered Gerald and Betty Jo Goeden, who both pleaded not guilty in April to 20 felony counts including grand theft, forgery, bribery and bad-check writing, to return to her chambers July 1.
Gerald Goeden was president of Goeden Co. until the firm filed for protection under federal bankruptcy laws in January, 1984. His wife, Betty Jo, was secretary-treasurer of the firm, which had been involved in development of expensive residential tracts in San Juan Capistrano, Laguna Niguel and Irvine.
The felony charges against the couple allege fraudulent attempts to obtain bank loans, writing bad checks to purchase commodity futures, embezzlement of construction loans and bribery of a bank official.
