A Glendale police officer whose daughter was badly injured when his police dog attacked her has filed a $12-million claim with the Glendale city attorney’s office, contending in part that the city was negligent in requiring off-duty officers to keep their police dogs at home. Last Dec. 13, the dog mauled 2-year-old Jennifer Jauregui in the back yard of the family’s La Crescenta home. Attorney David Alkire said the child will require extensive plastic surgery. Officer Ricardo Jauregui also stated in the claim that he and his wife have suffered emotional damage because of the incident and that the city has not followed through on its promise to pay medical bills. Assistant City Atty. Scott Howard said he is reviewing the claim and will make a recommendation to the City Council within a month on whether it should accept or reject the claim. If the council rejects the claim, Jauregui can then file a lawsuit.
