2 Killed in Corona Plane Crash
A single-engine plane crashed Tuesday in a Corona orange grove, killing the pilot and his passenger, authorities said.
Sgt. Roy VanderKallen said both men were pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 11 a.m. crash.
“The airplane did not appear to be making an emergency landing,” he said.
The names of the victims were not released pending notification of their relatives. The origin and destination of the Cessna 150 were not immediately known.
Fire Department Battalion Chief Ben Blair said the crash occurred about a quarter-mile from the nearest road, Lester and Valencia streets.
There was no fire, and both men died from injuries suffered as the craft nosed into the trees.
The accident is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
