A 34-year-old San Diego man has been arrested in connection with the death of his stepdaughter, police said Sunday. Larry Gene James of Linda Vista was arrested late Saturday after 3-year-old Christa Hawkins was pronounced dead at Sharp Memorial Hospital. The girl was taken to the hospital by paramedics responding to a call from the Ulric Street home James shares with the girl’s mother, Jane James. Paramedics were summoned at 5:34 p.m. and found Christa on the floor in a bedroom. She had stopped breathing and her body was bruised. A deputy coroner said an autopsy showed Christa died of internal bleeding caused by the rupture of her pancreas and an artery in her abdomen.
