Santa Monica Asks for Cable TV Plan
The Santa Monica City Council, after receiving a report from its Cable Communications Task Force, has asked the staff to develop an “action plan” in the next two months to be used in negotiating a new cable franchise.
The franchise with Group W Cable expires in 1987, when the city hopes to upgrade the system. The new franchise agreement would run until 2002.
Task force members said they would like to expand the capacity of the city’s cable system. They also would like to increase public access by creating a community network.
