The City Council has approved an agreement by which Los Angeles County will contribute $300,000 toward a pavement resurfacing and reconstruction project along Imperial Highway.
The rest of the $650,000 project will be paid for with federal highway funds.
More than one mile of Imperial, from Bullis Road to Fernwood Avenue, will be affected.
The council voted recently to accept the agreement, under which the county will prepare the construction design and inspect the completed project.
Construction is expected to start in April, after a contractor is selected, said Joseph Wang, city engineer and director of public works.
In addition to the highway improvements, the city will use $40,000 in Proposition A transit funds to install reinforced concrete “bus pads” along the construction route. The pads are used to help pavement withstand the frequent stops of buses, Wang said.
