I agree with your editorial (Dec. 24), “Fast Shuffle at City Hall,” with certain reservations. Yes, I agree more police are needed to patrol the streets of Los Angeles and no, it is not equitable for the property owners to pay the entire bill!

Keep in mind that the police will service not only the 46% of property owners but also the 54% of non-property owners. Equalize the cost by broad basing the tax structure by an increase in the sales tax of probably one-half cent. I sincerely believe that the majority of our citizens would approve of this method.
