The Nation - News from Jan. 3, 1985
Vietnam veterans and their families have an extra two weeks to file claims against the $180-million settlement fund created by the makers of the herbicide Agent Orange. Seven chemical companies agreed last May to establish the fund to compensate those who say they were injured by the herbicide, which was sprayed over millions of acres of Southeast Asia during the 1960s to deprive communist insurgents of food crops and jungle cover. U.S. District Judge Jack B. Weinstein of Brooklyn has extended the deadline to Jan. 15 although no additional forms are being distributed. Those who already have the form and wish to make a claim should mail it to the Agent Orange Compensation Center, Box 905, Smithtown, N.Y., 11787.
