Friday night’s game between Mission Hills Alemany and Corona Centennial should be a sizzler.

Not just because it features two of the best teams in the Southland, but because daytime temperature in Corona is expected to reach 105 degrees. Both defenses will have their hands full trying to cool off a pair of red hot offenses that combined for 101 points last week.

Alemany, ranked third in The Times’ regional poll, is averaging almost 50 points per game and these Warriors (3-0) are loaded at the skill positions.

Centennial, ranked #11 by The Times, responded to its thrilling season-opening loss at #4 Ventura St. Bonaventure by hanging 61 points on Long Beach Cabrillo, but it might have to play its best to pull off the upset Friday.

This is another chance for the Huskies (1-1) to earn respect for the Inland Division by knocking off an elite Southern Section team. Centennial will have home field advantage, but it’s not like the Warriors aren’t also used to practicing and playing in scorching conditions in the San Fernando Valley.
