Orange Lutheran decided to move its Trinity League game from Wednesday to Tuesday in an attempt to beat the rain, and the Lancers triumphed, getting three hits from Cody Nulph and another strong start from left-hander Art Moran-Vidrio (4-0) to defeat Anaheim Servite, 8-2.
Lutheran is 13-3 overall and 6-0 in the Trinity League. The Lancers are relying on a stellar defense, led by its infield of third baseman Josh Morgan, shortstop Nulph, second baseman Travis Blue and first baseman Tommy Bell. They were near flawless behind Vidrio, who allowed three hits in six innings. Morgan, a sophomore, is going to create his own highlight video with his frequent defensive gems.
Conner Sullivan, Bell and Blue each had two hits. Servite dropped to 1-5 in the Trinity League, with ace Cole Irvin taking the loss. The Friars are 11-1 in nonleague games but they’re not going to make the Division 1 playoffs unless they start winning in the Trinity League.
Trevor Charpie threw the shutout in JSerra’s 5-0 win over St. John Bosco. He struck out four and walked one. Mater Dei defeated Santa Margarita, 7-0.
In the Babe Herman tournament, Chatsworth remained unbeaten with a 6-3 win over North Torrance. Ricky Obando had a two-run double and Jared Holley had two hits and two RBIs. El Camino Real defeated Woodbridge, 6-1. Mitchell Dergazarian, Mason Novak and Hayden Rappoport each had three hits. Luke Laurita allowed one unearned run in a complete game.

In the St. Paul tournament, Simi Valley advanced to the championship game with a 6-1 win over Carson. Reece Schmidt threw a five-hitter, striking out five and walking none. Wyatt Hogan had three hits and Nick Vigo and Schmidt contributed two RBIs apiece.
Gardena Serra defeated Long Beach Millikan, 7-4. Justin Traylor had a two-run triple and Khalil Denson went three for three. Cathedral defeated Banning, 7-4. Bryan Duenas was three for three with two doubles.
