After a sluggish start, both teams are beginning to find the range from the outside but after three quarters Sun Valley Village Christian is still leading defending champion Alameda St. Joseph Notre Dame 37-35 in the CIF state Division V final at Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento.
Sophomore guard Bryan Alberts and junior forward Joe Shashaty are leading the way for the gutsy Crusaders, but they are getting plenty of help from forwards Marsalis Johnson and Andrew English. Center Temidayo Yussef is keeping St. Joseph Notre Dame in the game.
It’s been a game of runs, as Village Christian has surged to several seven-point leads before the Pilots narrowed the gap late in the second and third quarters. With eight minutes to go it’s anybody’s game.
