Rancho Verde senior linebacker Ronald Powell received his jersey for the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Tuesday in a ceremony at the school in which the Golden Knights parachute team dropped in the jersey. ‘It’s a great honor to be playing in this game,’ Powell said. ‘Not just for me but also for my school. ... It’s overwhelming.’
The game, which will be played Jan. 9 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, is in its 10th year and has featured eventual Heisman Trophy winners Reggie Bush and Tim Tebow.
‘The greatest have played in this game and hopefully I’ll be one of the greatest,’ Powell said. ‘It’s an honor to play in this game and represent me and my family.’
The U.S. Army selection tour will make stops at Corona on Tuesday to honor an undisclosed bowl participant and Taft on Wednesday to honor running back D.J. Morgan, who has also been selected to participate.
