The Magnolia girls’ basketball team avoided being shutout in the first quarter and then started acting as if it could stay with San Francisco Sacred Heart, the nation’s top-ranked team. After the first quarter of the girls Division III final, it’s all tied, 11-11, at Arco Arena in Sacramento.
Magnolia didn’t get its first bucket until Brianna Colon banked in a shot with her left hand with 3:20 left in the opening quarter. Colon then hit a long three-pointer on the next offensive possession to tie the score, 5-5.
Colon, who averages 8.4 points, has six points to lead the Sentinels. If they can avoid the second-chance points for the Fightin’ Irish, they might actually might have a Fightin’ Chance to win this game.
