Before the season started Granada Hills Kennedy Coach Larry Wagenbach was faced with a difficult decision: Either drop his team down to the City Section’s 5A League or keep it in the elite 6A League.
Wagenbach chose the second option and now he hopes the move won’t backfire.
‘We have three pretty strong freshmen and I thought we’d be able to compete in 6A,’ said Wagenbach, who was an assistant coach when Kennedy won the City championship in 2006. ‘But then I find out my No. 1 and No. 4 players are ineligible and suddenly we’re stuck in Neverland.’
Kennedy could wind up fifth or sixth in the City’s strongest league, but Wagenbach believes that beats the alternative: clobbering badly overmatched opponents by 50 strokes.
