In football the Marine League is the best in the City Section. In basketball it’s the Western League. In baseball it’s the West Valley League. And in boys’ golf, the 6A League is the best.
Right now, El Camino Real looks like the Superman of this ‘Super League,’ and not even a mountain of Kryptonite can render the Conquistadores vulnerable if they keep shooting like they did Wednesday afternoon in the 6A Invitational at Griffith Park.
Five players shot in the 70s to post a winning score of 378 -- three strokes lower than they shot in the first round of the City finals last spring. Gio Washington shot 71, followed by Ryan Cienfuegos (75), Thomas Lodwig (76), Vincent Seapara (76) and Daniel Slovis (77). The closest team to the defending section champions was Granada Hills, some 22 strokes behind.
‘That was pretty impressive,’ marveled North Hollywood Coach Steve Miller, whose Huskies shot 415 to finish a distant third. ‘Of course, there’ll be a coach with them [at City finals] and they’ll be under more pressure, so you never know.’
