So much for the unstoppable Saugus march to the Foothill League title.
Thanks to another three-pronged scoring attack by Chelsey Hastigan, Lindsey Hill and Starla Wright, Valencia built on its reputation as an upset-maker with a 56-50 victory over the first-place Centurions on Friday.
As usual, Hastigan led the way with 19 points, Hill netted 13 and Wright continued her strong string of performances with 13 points and nine rebounds. Gabby Conn finished with 17 points for Saugus.
Honestly, a few weeks back, I didn’t think the Vikings had games like this in them. But after their triumph over Hart a couple weeks ago, I became a Valencia believer. It just goes to show that the Foothill League title race is wide open this season.
As for the Centurions, consecutive losses to Hart and Valencia means they’re not going to run away with this thing.
