Opening act a bust

San Gorgonio raised the curtains on its new stadium Friday night, a project funded by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. I’m not a gambler, but if I was, I’d make the drive to the San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino, knowing my losings would go to a good cause.

Never mind a little bad publicity, if these guys are willing to throw down seven figures for a new stadium in San Bernardino, I know a couple Little League fields in Orange that could use a few thousand dollars.

If the Spartans were hoping to show off the new stadium with a victory, they scheduled the wrong team. With their mayor on hand, they got trampled by Phelan (don’t confuse us for Victorville) Serrano, 29-7.

Serrano is the top-ranked team in the Southern Section Eastern Division and will probably finish the regular season undefeated, if it can knock off another unbeaten team, visiting Ontario Colony, on Friday night at 7.

Unfortunately, I won’t be there. I’m on the Corona Centennial bandwagon the next two weeks, as the Huskies take on fellow state-ranked teams Clovis West and Mater Dei.
