South El Monte: Gerardo Corral Jr., 27

Gerardo Corral Jr., a 27-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Friday, Jan. 1, in the 10700 block of Klingerman Street in South El Monte, authorities said.
According to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department news release, Corral was standing in the street about 1:45 a.m. when two Latinos in a dark-colored car drove up to him. Corral and the men ‘exchanged words’ then at least one of them shot him in the chest and abdomen, according to the news release and coroner’s records.
Corral was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:25 a.m.
