Red Sox’s John Lackey infuriated by text message

A half-hour before Sunday’s game against the Yankees, Red Sox pitcher John Lackey received a text message from a reporter that he deemed highly inappropriate. It was about a personal matter.

After his team’s 7-4, 14-inning victory, he wanted to discuss it.

When reporters asked him about his pitching, he snapped.

‘Thirty minutes before the game I got a text message on my cellphone from one of you, somebody in the media, talking about personal stuff,’ he said. ‘I shouldn’t even have to be standing up here dealing with it.

‘I’m sitting here, listening to music. I don’t know who got my phone number, but that’s over the line.’

Last winter it was reported that Lackey’s wife, Krista, was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. TMZ reported Monday morning that Lackey has filed to divorce her.

The Red Sox sent out a news release on Monday, which said: ‘John Lackey is dealing with a deeply personal family issue, and it is one the Red Sox do not feel is appropriate for public debate. The Red Sox request that John and Krista’s privacy be respected.’
