Clippers update: Notes and quotes from Day 2 of camp

They’ve had three sessions, and the Clippers’ Baron Davis, who is dealing with nagging injuries, remains limited in his on-court activities, the rookies are being treated like, well, rookies, and everyone remains wildly optimistic.

So, yes, it is not much different from any other camp.

-- New Coach Vinny Del Negro after Wednesday’s lone practice session, on the limitations on Davis, Brian Cook and Craig Smith:

‘They’ve been in and out a little bit. Baron did a couple of things today. All of them did a couple of things. You’ve just got to monitor it. Doesn’t make much sense to wear them down right now.”

He did speak highly of one newcomer, saying: ‘Considering Randy Foye just came back [from knee surgery], he hasn’t missed anything.’

-- Del Negro on the difference between training camp in his day and present-day circumstances:

‘If you were a little bit stiff after the first practice, the trainer would throw you a glove and a bottle of Flexall and say, ‘Hey, figure it out.’ Now we’ve got seven trainers, nine equipment guys. There’s nothing we don’t have.’

Then there was the matter of asking rookie and former Kentucky guard Eric Bledsoe about the end of the long inquiry into his high school grades.

‘I’m not really focused on that,’ he told The Times after practice Wednesday. ‘I’m only worried about our season coming up. That’s just previous. It’s behind me. That’s definitely behind me. I’m on a new career. I’m starting clean and fresh. I’ve got enough to deal with.’
