Chivas USA announced today that goalkeeper Zach Thornton will replace Houston Dynamo’s Pat Onstad on the MLS All-Star roster for Wednesday’s match against England’s Everton FC.
Thornton will join Seattle Sounders FC’s Kasey Keller as the team’s two goalkeepers.
“It’s a great honor to be nominated, not only for myself but also for the Chivas organization and my teammates… because we have done some good things. So I’m happy,” Thornton said on the Chivas USA’s official blog. “It’s definitely a nice honor.”
Thorton has played in every minute of the club’s 17 games this season. He has recorded eight wins and seven shutouts, second behind Onstad, who has played in two more matches.
A 13-year veteran, Thornton was named the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 1998.
He will be playing in his sixth all-star match.
