Talk about USC connections.
Rod Marinelli, the recently fired head coach of the 0-16 Detroit Lions, interviewed with the Houston Texans today for their vacant defensive line job.
‘It was an excellent interview,’ Coach Gary Kubiak said. ‘I have a lot of respect for Rod. He’s as good a defensive line coach as I’ve seen. He’s a tough guy with an aggressive style.’
If Marinelli gets the job, he would replace Jethro Franklin, one of three defensive coaches fired last week by the Texans. Franklin, of course, was hired this week to coach the defensive line at USC. And Marinelli? He was once defensive line coach ... that’s right ... at USC. And Franklin? This is his second stint on the USC coaching staff.
