The creators of the Disney Channel’s sitcom ‘Sonny With a Chance’ are reworking the series to give its star the opportunity to recover from her personal travails.
As Demi Lovato seeks treatment for an eating disorder and other problems, the show’s writers will focus on the show-within-the-show, a Disney Channel spokeswoman confirmed.
The producers plan to introduce guest stars, musical performers and digital shorts to ‘So Random!’ the variety show in which Lovato portays Allison ‘Sonny’ Munroe, a talented Midwestern girl who joins the ensemble cast.
It’s unclear when Lovato will return, so the show’s producers told Variety they arrived at the idea as a stopgap measure. This would allow the show to resume shooting in January, as planned, even if she is unavailable, Variety reported.
