Last year, Sade returned to the stage after more than 10 years for a critically acclaimed tour that was hailed as ‘the best concert of the year” by the Baltimore Sun and others. Now, she’s bringing those smooth, romantic performances to a DVD/album package.
The Nigerian-born British pop songstress will release ‘Bring Me Home -- Live 2011’ on May 22, her label announced Monday.
The DVD for ‘Bring Me Home -- Live 2011’ was directed by Sophie Muller, who also designed the Sade stage show, and includes 22 of her hits performed on her visually striking stage, which was nominated by Pollstar for most creative stage production and 2011 major tour of the year. The live album that accompanies the DVD features 13 of the songs performed.
During Sade’s sold-out August run at Staples Center, Times pop critic Randall Roberts praised the singer’s two-hour show and lauded how she “controlled her environment with restraint and allure, drawing us in rather than forcing herself upon us.” He also commented on the “well-imagined stage” that at one point appeared to make the ageless singer “look like a Vogue spread come to life.”
The DVD, which was shot in various cities during the tour’s 54-date U.S. run, also features a behind-the-scenes film shot by Muller, a technical documentary and outtakes from the crew.
Sade’s tour was in support of 2010’s platinum-selling “Soldier of Love.” The trek was one of last year’s top 10 grossing tours.
