Brown again using veto pen to taunt GOP lawmakers

It’s that time of year again.

With hundreds of bills on Gov. Jerry Brown’s desk, the governor’s office issues daily updates on Brown’s actions on dozens of bills per day. And as he did last year, Brown is once again using his veto messages to jab ever so lightly at Republican lawmakers.

Brown vetoed four bills Thursday, including a measure by Fresno Republican Assemblywoman Linda Halderman that would have required the Dept. of Consumer Affairs to post a notice on its website advising consumers who receive a solicitation about construction defects to check with their builder in addition to taking any further action.

But Brown said the department is already posting a similar notice and deemed the bill unnecessary. ‘So in keeping with the author’s oft-stated mantra that government should not be wasteful or do unnecessary things, I am returning AB 1892 without my signature,’ he wrote.

Brown also signed 16 bills on a range of subjects from electronic privacy to mobile-home park permits.

Thursday afternoon, Brown will hand out the state’s Medal of Valor to public safety workers who demonstrated bravery in the line of duty.
