Rupert Grint, who as Ron Weasley was wing man to Daniel Radcliffe’s Harry Potter in eight films over 10 years, turned 23 on Wednesday, causing squeals to erupt across Twitter and on the Web. Because, really, he was the cute one, right? Am I right?

After the final ‘Harry Potter’ film, there were mutterings that Grint might give up acting, but since then he’s been busy with film projects. His latest is the World War II drama ‘Wartime Wanderers,’ with Jonathan Pryce, coming out next year. The movie is based on the true story of the Bolton Wanderers soccer team, 15 of whose members signed up in 1939 to fight in the war.

Grint might be wise not to give up his acting career yet. At the very least there would be a legion of disappointed fans who have watched as Harry’s best friend progressed from redheaded cherub through youthful acne and straight on to beard stubble.

In celebration of another year of manhood, fans are wishing Grint happy birthday on his Twitter account.

A highlight among those wishes is ‘10 Reasons to Fancy Rupert Grint,’ from the Bike Shed blog in Britain. No. 1 reason? He’s a laid-back lovely. No. 7? He sells ice cream. Yes, Grint owns an ice cream van. Something he told Regis and Kelly about last year. Yes, for Grint, life’s still sweet — even without Harry.
