Country singers Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert are engaged to be married, People reports, after Shelton popped the question unexpectedly Sunday.
Shelton, who won vocal event of the year in April at the Academy of Country Music Awards for ‘Hillbilly Bone’ (video above) with Trace Adkins, sought out his future father-in-law’s blessing in advance, Lambert said. ‘That was so Southern and old-school and perfect,’ she told People.
Though it might have been a surprise for her, Shelton told the Boot in March that he could see such a thing happening. ‘Miranda and I have been together almost five years now,’ he said. ‘We’ve had our ups and downs, our high points and low points, but I do think that we’re stronger together now than we’ve ever, ever been’
(The Boot interview also has a few details about that ‘Hillbilly Bone’ video shoot, including what exactly was in the bottle and how sober he was by the end of the day.)
It’s a second marriage for Shelton and the first for Lambert. The two are both nominated for the fan-fueled CMT Music Awards; that event will be held June.
