Bodyboarders discovered the body of an 82-year-old man near a rock jetty by 40th Street in Newport Beach on Sunday, authorities said.
Newport Beach lifeguards and police officers responded to the scene about 2:30 p.m., according to a Newport Beach police news release. They found the body on the rocks near the water line and brought it to shore.
Foul play is not suspected, police said.
The body was fully clothed and bore no obvious signs of trauma, according to the release. It appeared to have been in the water for a short period of time.
The man has not yet been identified, pending the notification of family. The Orange County coroner’s office is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of death.
