Archival inspiration: John Lautner’s Harpel house

When I turned 30, I wanted to celebrate big. I envisioned a dimly lit and smoky party (hookahs, not cigarettes) filled with the coolest people I knew. I wanted there to be floor pillows, Middle Eastern food and strong sangria and for all my friends to help me prove to myself that one’s chance at a fabulous life doesn’t end at 29. That was two years ago and it was the best party I’ve ever thrown, but if it had taken place in this living room it just might have been the best party ever in the world. Click on the link to see more of this amazingly renovated John Lautner house in the Hollywood Hills. And I will pull inspiration from the scattered stools and that luxuriously enormous rug to help me figure out how to celebrate 35.
