Cannes 2012: Tim Roth to head Un Certain Regard jury

Actor Tim Roth has been named head of the jury for Un Certain Regard, the Cannes Film Festival section that runs parallel to the festival’s main competition.
Roth, who’s come to Cannes with films such as “Reservoir Dogs” and ‘Pulp Fiction,’ is known for his roles in movies such as “Rob Roy” and also stars in and produces the Fox series ‘Lie to Me.”
Un Certain Regard features a range of international cinema offerings and usually includes a high-profile film that had made a splash at Sundance earlier in the year. “Precious,” “Blue Valentine” and “Martha Marcy May Marlene” have all played the section in recent years.
Roth takes a spot that was occupied last year by the Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica. Kusturica’s jury handed its top prize to two films, South Korea’s “Ariarang” and Germany’s “Stopped on the Tracks.’
The Cannes Film Festival opens May 16 and runs through May 27. The selections for both the main competition and Un Certain Regard will be announced next Thursday.
