The Earth and Jupiter from Ziggy’s POV

I love it when machines look back at their makers. It has happened again with the Mars Global Surveyor snapping pictures of the conjunction of the Earth and Jupiter. The photo mosaic shows the Earth, Moon and Jupiter with three of its moons. The Mars Global Surveyor took the pictures in black and white so colors from Mariner 10 images were used to help colorize the Earth/Moon combo, while images from Cassini were used to give color to Jupiter. Now that the Global Surveyor has given a shout out to the homies back on Earth, it can turn to more pressing science, like finding more smiley faces on Mars.
