Woman hospitalized with ‘significant’ injuries after being hit by car in Glendale
A 61-year-old Glendale woman was hospitalized Friday afternoon after getting struck by a car while crossing a street in Glendale, with a bag of groceries in hand, police said.
The woman was in a crosswalk heading east on Monterey Road when she was hit by a car making a left turn onto Louise Street, said Glendale police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

The pedestrian was rushed to the hospital with “significant” injuries and was listed in critical condition.
She’d just been to the grocery store with her two friends, who were ahead of her in the crosswalk when she was struck.
Packages of frozen meals were strewn throughout the street, while a single shoe was left under the car.
The driver, a 69-year-old Glendale woman, remained at the scene for questioning. Police don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the collision.
As onlookers stopped to ask police questions about what happened and share their own stories of near-misses, Lightfoot reminded them to look both ways before crossing the street.
“Make eye contact with the driver and then cross,” she told them.
Detectives interviewed witnesses at the scene and are still investigating what caused the collision.
So far this year, three pedestrians have been killed in traffic collisions in Glendale.
