Art mediums converge at ‘Centered on the Center’
Recycled surfboards. Eucalyptus tree bark. Roadside salvaged steel.
They’re all part of the eclectic collection of works on exhibit in the annual “Centered on the Center,” running Saturday through March 7 at the Huntington Beach Art Center.
The open-call, non-juried public exhibition features oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, photography and installation pieces of mixed media. Of the 246 works from 167 participating artists from all over California, 89 are from Huntington Beach.
“‘Centered on the Center’ is unique to the art center’s exhibition program because it engages the local arts community without jurying, judging or in any way critiquing the work,” said Kate Hoffman, executive director of the Huntington Beach Art Center. “It is a wonderful opportunity for artists of all skill levels, whether beginners or professionals, to present their works in a beautiful, professional exhibition.”
The exhibition will open with a reception for the public from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the art center, 538 Main St. Admission is free.
