Briefs: CdM’s Dunk wins tennis crown
Incoming Corona del Mar High senior Jasie Dunk won the girls’ 18s singles title Monday at the 44th annual Knowlwood Junior Tennis Tournament in Santa Barbara.
Dunk, the top-seeded player, defeated No. 2-seeded Katelynn Shin of Northridge, 6-4, 6-2, in the title match. She did not drop a set in the tournament, which also included a 6-1, 6-2 semifinal victory over Mikala Triplett of Goleta.
It’s Dunk’s third tournament win this year in the girls’ 18s, in which she is ranked No. 45 in Southern California by the United States Tennis Assn.
Dunk will again be a key piece this year for the CdM girls’ tennis team that begins its season Sept. 7 against Sage Hill.

Two doubles champs
Corona del Mar residents Brooke Kenerson and Emin Torlic each won doubles titles with their respective partners at the 22nd annual Costa Mesa Summer Junior Classic tennis tournament, completed July 15 at Costa Mesa Tennis Center.
Kenerson, who will be a junior at Corona del Mar High, won the girls’ 16 doubles title with her partner Mary Brascia of Mission Viejo. Kenerson and Brascia were the No. 2 seeds and earned a forfeit victory in the final.
Torlic, who will be a sophomore at Sage Hill School, teamed with Justin Nguyen of Westminster to capture the boys’ 16 doubles crown. Torlic and Nguyen, the top-seeded team, blanked No. 2-seeded Peter Gottlieb of San Juan Capistrano and Caden Spencer of San Clemente, 8-0, in the title match.
Other locals also advanced to the finals. Kenerson’s younger sister, Reece, made the girls’ 14 doubles final with partner Michelle Zell of Tustin before falling to Taylor Cataldi of Corona and Cindy Ung of Eastvale, 8-2.
Newport Beach resident Chui Kei Leung, the top seed in the girls’ 14 singles, made the title match before falling to Milana Molnar of Ladera Ranch, 2-6, 7-5, 10-7.

Conlogue set to surf Sunday in quarters
Courtney Conlogue, a Sage Hill School graduate and the No. 1-ranked women’s surfer in the world, is scheduled to begin quarterfinal action in the Van’s U.S. Open of Surfing on Sunday at 10 a.m. near the Huntington Beach Pier.
The schedule, subject to modification for conditions, has slated the semifinals for noon and the final for 2 p.m.

Locals aid USA sweep
Former Corona del Mar High star Maddie Musselman scored two goals and ex-Newport Harbor and USC standout Kaleigh Gilchrist added one as the U.S. Olympic women’s water polo team beat Russia, 16-7, in its final pre-Olympic tuneup Wednesday night at Stanford University.
Newport Beach resident and team captain Maggie Steffens added a co-team-high three goals for Team USA, which completed a three-game sweep of Russia, also including a 15-7 win Sunday at UCLA and a 16-5 win July 21 at Cathedral Catholic High in San Diego.
Team USA, the defending Olympic gold medalist and currently ranked No. 1 in the world, opens play in the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Aug. 9 against Spain.
