Boys’ Lacrosse: Sailors’ Flinn Sunset Player of Year
Newport Harbor High attacker Dane Flinn took home the Sunset League Player of the Year award in boys’ lacrosse after leading the Sailors to their second straight undefeated league championship.
Flinn highlights one of five Sailors on the first team. The others are junior attackers Kyle Duffy and Patrick Lynch, and junior midfielders and twins Alex and Chandler Pearce.
The quintet helped Newport Harbor (10-7, 8-0 in league) extend its league winning streak to 22 games and return to the U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section South Division playoffs. The No. 10-seeded Sailors lost on the road to No. 7 Trabuco Hills, 13-2, in the opening round for the second time in as many years.
Flinn finished with 41 goals and eight assists.
Duffy recorded 24 goals and seven assists, and Lynch had 24 goals and six assists.
Alex Pearce totaled 15 goals and 19 assists, and his brother, Chandler, had 12 goals and 13 assists.
Newport Harbor senior defenders Jerome Higman and Max Durante, as well as senior goalie John Jasper made the second team.
The Sailors on the honorable mention list were senior defender Cory Robertson, junior long-stick midfielder Ryan Simons and sophomore faceoff specialist Race Mooers.
Duffy, who had a 4.86 weighted grade-point average, also made the Sunset League All-Academic team, along with Jack Elliot (4.88), Chandler Pearce (4.42), Alex Pearce (4.25), Cade Walton (4.17), Robertson (4.14), Jaden Duncan (3.93), Mooers (3.83), Brandt Walton (3.83), Paxton Miller (3.83) and Higman (3.80).

Sage’s Briggs honored
Sage Hill School senior Bobby Briggs received second-team All-Pacific Coast League recognition in boys’ lacrosse.
The Lightning finished 1-13, 1-9 in league.
Beckman sophomore Justin Cheng was the Pacific Coast League MVP.
