Vanguard’s Magana honored

Vanguard University goalkeeper Haley Magana has been voted Golden State Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week in women’s soccer.

Magana, a sophomore, helped the No. 10-ranked Lions earn a pair of shutout victories to extend their winning streak to seven matches.

Vanguard topped William Jessup, 5-0, on Saturday, after earning a 1-0 win in the GSAC opener on Wednesday at The Master’s.

Magana has not allowed a goal during an eight-game winning streak, helping Vanguard rank second in the NAIA with seven shutouts. After Tuesday’s GSAC 1-0 overtime upset of Westmont at home, Magana ranks No. 4 nationally with a goals-against average of 0.24.
