PROVO, Utah — Tamir Hershko had 19 kills and Thomas Hodges added 13 as the visiting No. 7-ranked Anteaters upset the No. 3-ranked Cougars, 25-23, 28-26, 32-34, 21-15, 15-12, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match Friday.
Michael Saeta had 44 assists and five kills for UCI (7-2, 4-2 in conference).
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Orange Coast 56, Saddleback 51
MISSION VIEJO — Michelle Wu had 16 points and Sydney Driggs added 13 to help the visiting Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday.
OCC improved to 16-9, 4-3 in conference.
Saddleback is 18-6, 6-1.
Hawaii 79, UC Irvine 62
HONOLULU — The visiting Anteaters tied a school record with 12 three-pointers in the Big West Conference loss late Thursday night.
Sophomore Andee Ritter was five for 11 from three-point range and had 19 points, while senior Mckenzie Piper was six for 11 from the field (three for five from threedom) to produce 16 points for UCI (3-17, 1-5 in conference).
Shereen Sutherland had 10 points and seven rebounds for UCI, which made 12 of 29 three-point tries (41.4%).
Hawaii is 7-11, 3-3.
BASEBALL
Vanguard 7, Benedictine 6
Bryce Wetherell singled in the game-winning run in the eighth inning as the hosts overcame deficits of 3-2, 5-4 and 6-5 in the nonconference game Friday.
Senior Brock Eissman homered in the seventh to pull the No. 20-ranked Lions even, 6-6. Eissman was two for four with three runs batted in.
Shane Elias-Calles, who began the winning rally with a two-out double, was two for four, as was teammate Brandon Sandoval.
Wetherell and Tanner Perry drove in two runs apiece for Vanguard (2-0), for which Chris Lumanlan earned the win with three relief innings.
Jake Mellenthin worked a scoreless ninth for his first save.
Benedictine is 1-3.
The two teams play a doubleheader on Saturday at Vanguard, beginning at 11 a.m.

MISSION VIEJO — Parker Romo had nine points to lead the visiting Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday.
Nick Harding, a Newport Harbor High product, and Kamar Reese had seven points and five rebounds each for OCC (7-15, 0-7 in conference).
Saddleback, ranked No. 1 in the state, is 20-3, 6-1.
