UCI’s Kekauoha honored

UC Irvine sophomore Harlee Kekauoha, who hit a combined .583 to lead the Anteaters to sweeps of Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside, has been named Big West Conference Player of the Week in women’s volleyball.

The 6-foot opposite hammered 22 kills with just one error in 36 attempts last week as the Anteaters moved into a tie for fourth place.

Kekauoha set a school record for single-match hitting percentage against the Titans, finishing with a .923 mark. She had 12 kills in 13 swings without an error.

She also contributed prominently in other ways against the Titans, firing a career-high five aces while adding nine digs and a block. The five aces rank No. 8 in the UCI record book.

Against the Highlanders, Kekauoha had 10 kills, nine digs, three aces and two blocks.

For the week, she averaged 3.67 kills, 3.0 digs, 1.33 aces and 0.5 blocks per set.

Kekauoha is one of only nine players in the country with three triple-doubles this season.

She was twice named Big West Player of the Week last season.

UCI (9-14, 4-5 in conference) visits Long Beach State on Friday and CSUN on Saturday. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
