Girls’ Volleyball McKeown named Orange Coast MVP
Laguna Beach High junior outside hitter Lexi McKeown took home the Orange Coast League MVP award as the girls’ volleyball team continues to dominate the league, winning it in each of its 11 years in existence.
McKeown lifted Laguna Beach (15-12 overall) to a perfect 10-0 league title and the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 playoffs. She finished with 286 kills, 291 digs, 23 service aces, five solo blocks and 36 block assists.
Laguna Beach senior middle blocker Lucy Fontenot, freshman libero Hallie Carballo and senior outside hitter Callista Wulff made the first team, along with Costa Mesa junior outside hitter Courtney Moore, junior middle blocker Felicia Crenshaw and freshman setter Malia Tufuga, and Estancia senior setter Olivia Toohey.
Carballo, Crenshaw and Toohey are repeat first-team selections.
Costa Mesa placed second in league at 7-3, and Estancia was fourth at 5-5. The Mustangs and Eagles each reached the Division 5 playoffs, but both exited in the first round.
The second-team selections were Laguna Beach freshman Peri Brennan, freshman opposite Soren Patchell and junior setter Elena Gillespie, Costa Mesa senior outside hitter Vanessa Maciel and senior libero Ayauna Taylor, and Estancia senior outside hitter McKenna Covey and junior middle blocker Sarah Graham.
