High School Roundup: CdM boys’ soccer edges Mission Viejo

MISSION VIEJO — Senior Blake Munger and junior Will O’Connor scored for the Sea Kings in the second round of the South Orange County Classic on Tuesday.
Senior Jad Malley assisted Munger’s goal, while junior Grant Joyce picked up the assist after taking a nice pass from senior Leo Alves.
Goalie Koen Ebbinga made three saves for CdM (6-2-1), which lost to El Toro, 4-1, in the first round on Monday.
Alves scored the Sea Kings’ lone goal.

Estancia 3, Newport Harbor 1
Kevin Pizarro, Andy Ceja and Adan Rodriguez each recorded a goal for the Eagles in the home match at the North Orange County Classic on Monday.
Yonathan Lopez made two saves for Estancia (7-2-1), ranked No. 5 in the CIF Southern Section Division 4 poll.
The Eagles return to action on Jan. 4, when they play host to Sunny Hills, No. 4 in Division 2.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Costa Mesa 62, Santiago 31
Senior center Mason Tufuga led the Mustangs with 23 points in a nonleague game at home on Tuesday.
Nico Dasca added 13 points for Costa Mesa (5-6).
The Mustangs start the Santa Barbara Holiday Classic on Monday, when they play Arroyo Grande at 3 p.m.

LAKE FOREST — Senior forward Matt Ctvrtlik finished with 18 points in the Sea Kings’ game in the North-South Challenge at El Toro High on Tuesday afternoon.
CdM (8-3), ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division 3A poll, competes in the Don Bambauer Memorial Holiday Classic at Kentfield Marin Catholic on Saturday. The Sea Kings open with San Rafael Terra Linda at 5 p.m.

LAKE FOREST — Senior guard Charlie Stassel finished with 17 points and earned game MVP honors for the Sailors in the North-South Challenge at El Toro High on Monday.
Josh Phillips had 12 points, and his older brother, Brandon, added 11 points.
Newport Harbor (10-2), ranked No. 14 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2AA poll, opens play at the Santa Maria tournament against Templeton next Monday at 2 p.m.
