Women’s Soccer: UCI’s Palacios shines

UC Irvine sophomore Kiana Palacios helped Mexico finish third in the recent CONCACAF under-20 women’s soccer world championships in Honduras.

Palacios scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Honduras in the third-place match on Dec. 13.

She scored in the 66th minute to create a 2-2 deadlock with the United States in group play.

The central midfielder, who converted her penalty kick in a shootout loss against to team USA, made the 11-player all-tournament team

Mexico finished 2-1 in the tournament to earn a berth in the 2016 under-20 World Cup.
