High School Roundup: Newport Harbor boys’ basketball wins Oxford Academy tournament
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Newport 59, Whittier Christian 57
Junior Collin Pipkin hit two free throws with four seconds left to win the game for the Sailors, who also captured the Oxford Academy tournament title on Saturday.
Senior Charlie Stassel led Newport Harbor (8-2) with 19 points and was named the tournament MVP. Pipkin, who was named to the all-tournament team, added 15 points.
Senior Nate Harding scored 10 points for the Sailors.
Newport Harbor’s next game is against Garey at home on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Sage Hill 57, Avalon 50
Chance Kuehnel scored 19 points to lead the Lightning in their nonleague home win on Saturday.
Zayn Viviji added eight points for Sage Hill (4-3).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Estancia 52, Orange 42
Maya Van Den Heever recorded a triple-double: 18 assists, 16 points and 14 rebounds in the Eagles’ nonleague win on Saturday.
She also had four steals.
Finley Garnett scored 25 points to lead Estancia, and also made four steals.
Nefertiti Van Den Heever grabbed 21 rebounds to go with seven points and six assists.

Best in the West tournament
Estancia defeated California, 1-0, and tied Quarz Hill, 1-1.
Junior Lauren Kaucher and sophomore Isabelle Cruz scored one goal each for the Eagles.
Estancia will play in the semfinals against St. Joseph on Saturday.

Edison Beach Bash
HUNTINGTON BEACH — Estancia’s Juan Lozada placed fourth in the 195-pound weight class during the Edison Beach Bash on Saturday.
Lozada went 6-2 and pinned four opponents during the two-day tournament.
