Football: Four Lightning seniors make Academy League first team

Sage Hill School’s David Dewey, a wide receiver and cornerback, is one of four senior Lightning football players earning first-team All-Academy League honors.

Dewey is on the first team with lineman Barry Valdez, DJ Henry, a running back and defensive lineman, and Robbie Rosoff, the Academy League Kicker of the Year.

Sage Hill (2-8, 0-3 in league) placed fourth in league and failed to reach the CIF Southern Section East Valley Division playoffs in Coach Abram Booty’s debut season.

Dewey finished with 44 receptions for 546 yards and three touchdowns.

Dewey had 30 tackles and two interceptions.

Valdez produced 56 tackles, one sack and two fumble recoveries.

Henry rushed 99 times for 314 yards and seven touchdowns.

On defense, Henry finished with 51 tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery.

Rosoff converted three of six field-goal attempts and 19 of 21 extra-point kicks.

Sage Hill’s Alfonso Corona, a senior linebacker and lineman, Miles McCord, a junior receiver and cornerback, and Jake Fisher, a senior receiver and defensive back, made the second team.

The Academy League Offensive MVP award went to St. Margaret’s all-around standout Nick Shanks and Brethren Christian running back Jordan Leonard, while Crean Lutheran linebacker Garrett Cox was the Academy League Defensive MVP.
