High School Roundup: Hopp scores nine in Estancia girls’ water polo win

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Estancia 17, Paramount 4

Hailey Hopp scored nine goals for the Eagles in Wednesday’s nonleague game at Estancia High.

Kaitlyn Chesemore scored four goals for Estancia (2-1), Julia Paluch added two and Maria Ramos and Alex Adkisson also scored. Adkisson and Meraide Green contributed to a strong defensive effort for the Eagles, as did goalie Hanna Smith, who had 12 saves.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Newport Harbor 56, Aliso Niguel 46

CYPRESS — Nate Harding scored 17 points to lead the Sailors in a pool-play game of the Oxford Academy tournament on Wednesday.

Charlie Stassel added 14 points for Newport Harbor (6-2).

The Sailors play against St. Margaret’s in another pool-play game of the Oxford Academy tournament Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Sage Hill 48, Tarbut V’Torah 23

Kenna Knollenberg scored 18 points to lead the Lightning in their nonleague home game on Wednesday.

Heather Park added 17 for Sage Hill (4-2).

The Lightning open the three-day Tri-City Christian Tournament against Pacific Ridge on Dec. 28.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Costa Mesa 4, La Quinta 1

WESTMINSTER — Juniors Daniel Vargas and Estevan Bahena and sophomore Luis Anaya scored one goal each for the Mustangs in the nonleague game on Wednesday.

Adrian Saucedo had an assist for Costa Mesa (2-1-0), which also gained a tally via an own goal from La Quinta.

Senior goalkeeper Axel Morales-Bravo made three saves for the Mustangs, who play against Irvine at University Friday at 3 p.m.

Laguna Hills 2, Corona del Mar 1

LAGUNA HILLS — Senior Jack Tomei scored for the Sea Kings in the nonleague game on Wednesday.

Senior George Wells had the assist after an accurate cross from junior Grant Joyce.

CdM (3-1) will play host to rival Newport Harbor in the Battle of the Bay on Friday at 3:15 p.m.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Estancia 7, Irvine 0

Senior Emily Rodriguez, junior Delani Guyot and sophomore Alexis Osso scored two goals each for the Eagles in the nonleague game on Tuesday.

Junior Katarina Freiberger also scored for Estancia (2-1-1). Goalie Annie Mitchell recorded her first shutout of the season.

The Eagles play at Marina on Thursday.
