Girls’ Volleyball: CdM’s Harris is Pacific Coast League MVP

Corona del Mar High senior versatile player Jessie Harris took home the Pacific Coast League MVP award for leading the Sea Kings to their seventh consecutive undefeated girls’ volleyball league championship.

Harris, who shared the league’s top honor last year, played outside hitter, setter and opposite for CdM (23-5, 10-0 in league). The Sea Kings lost in four sets in the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 1AA playoffs at Temecula Great Oak.

Joining Harris on the first team were three CdM seniors, libero Payton Carter, middle blocker Natalia Bruening and outside hitter Sydney Alacano.

Harris finished with 310 kills, 373 assists, 271 digs and 29 service aces. She is bound for Princeton.

Carter, a two-time first-team selection, totaled 411 digs, 44 assists and 43 aces.

Bruening, who is heading to UC Santa Barbara to play basketball, had 197 kills and 62 blocks. She made the first team for the second straight time.

Alacano recorded 154 kills and 22 blocks.

The Sea Kings’ second-team picks were sophomore opposite Ashley Humphreys and freshman middle blocker Kendall Kipp.
