High School Roundup: NHHS girls’ water polo takes down Wilson

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Newport Harbor 12, Long Beach Wilson 4

Sammie Garcia had three goals and four steals for the Sailors in Tuesday’s nonleague game at Newport Harbor High.

Katie Kearns had two goals, two assists and a steal for Newport Harbor (1-1), ranked No. 9 in CIF Southern Section Division 1. Quincy Morgan, Kaela Whelan, Josie Miller, Sarah Barker, Jessica Lynch, Claire Tafoya and Annie Rankin all scored one goal for Newport, and Maddy Kanzler made three saves.

The Sailors play at Foothill on Friday at 4 p.m. in a key nonleague game. Foothill is ranked No. 4 in Division 1.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Sage Hill 1, Calvary Chapel 1

Claire Novotny scored for the Lightning in Tuesday’s nonleague game at home.

Olivia Lowe had the assist for Sage Hill (1-1-1), while Kayla Gratzer-Von Litsel (two saves) and Sarah Lowey (four saves) shared time in goal.

Sage Hill plays host to Laguna Beach on Thursday.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Corona del Mar 8, Canyon 0

Senior Spencer Lamoure recorded three goals in the Sea Kings’ nonleague win at home on Monday.

Blake Munger finished with two goals and two assists, while Leo Alves had three assists.

Goalkeepers Koen Ebbinga and Christopher Bartolic combined for the shutout.

The Sea Kings (3-0) play at Laguna Hills on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Newport Harbor 2, San Juan Hills 2

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Juniors Alex Avila and Bryant Reyes scored for the Sailors in the nonleague game on Monday.

Reyes’ goal was the equalizer for Newport Harbor (0-3-1), which plays at Corona del Mar in the Battle of the Bay on Friday at 3:15 p.m.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Corona del Mar 67, St. Andrew’s 46

Senior forward Matt Ctvrtlik opened the Corona del Mar Beach Bash with 15 points and three three-pointers in a home pool-play game against a team from New Zealand on Monday.

Taeveon Le had nine points and D.J. Rodman added eight points for CdM (2-0).

Newport Harbor 60, Cypress 48

CYPRESS — Charlie Stassel scored 22 points to lead the Sailors in an Oxford Academy tournament game on Tuesday.

Brandon Phillips added nine points and eight rebounds for Newport Harbor, which plays against Aliso Viejo on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Oxford Academy tournament.

Stassel scored 15 points and Phillips added 13 points and 10 rebounds in the Sailors’ 65-26 win over California in the Oxford Academy tournament on Monday.

Estancia 59, Santa Ana Valley 45

SANTA ANA — Evan Pettingill scored 22 points for the Eagles to open the Santa Ana Valley tournament on Monday.

Estancia plays against Garden Grove on Wednesday in the Santa Ana Valley tournament.

Sage Hill 68, Saddleback Valley Christian 29

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Heather Park scored 23 points to lead the Lightning in the nonleague game on Monday.

Kenna Knollenberg added 22 points and Jackie Nam scored five points for Sage Hill.
