MEN’S BASKETBALL

St. Mary’s 70, UC Irvine 60

MORAGA — Aaron Wright scored a career-high 14 points in his first start of the season for the visiting Anteaters in the nonconference game Sunday.

Junior Mamadou Ndiaye had 12 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots, while junior Luke Nelson added 12 points for UCI (6-3).

St. Mary’s (6-0) shot 50% from the field, including nine for 17 from three-point range (52.9%).

UCI shot 39.6% from the field and was nine for 24 from threedom (35.7%).

UCI visits Utah State on Saturday.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

UC Irvine 68, Nevada 64

Junior Shereen Sutherland had 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Raelyn Cheung-Sutton also had a double-double with 12 points and 12 assists to help the host Anteaters snap a four-game losing streak on Sunday.

UCI trailed, 50-45, entering the third period and the game was tied, 62-62, in the final minute.

Sutherland, who posted her first career double-double, was seven for 10 from the field.

Sutton’s assists tied a career high.

Mokun Fajemisin had a season-best 13 rebounds to go with six points and four blocked shots for the winners (2-5).

Irene Chavez had 12 points and Paulina Santana added 10 for UCI, which plays host to San Diego Christian on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Nevada is 0-8.

Orange Coast 85, West Los Angeles 80

CYPRESS — Jenna Rodriguez had 26 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Pirates in the consolation final of the Cypress tournament on Sunday at Cypress College.

Chyann Pendergrass had 13 points and eight assists, while Michelle Wu added 15 points and Megan Lewis had 12 points and six rebounds for OCC (4-4).

West L.A. fell to 3-5.

OCC visits Moorpark on Friday at 5 p.m.
