High School Roundup: Salameh’s double-double leads Costa Mesa to win

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Costa Mesa 67, Segerstrom 57

SANTA ANA — Nabeel Salameh had 17 points, 11 rebounds and five assists for the Mustangs in a silver bracket game of the Godinez Invitational on Thursday.

Mason Tufuga had 16 points and 12 rebounds for Costa Mesa, while Dino Pepic scored 14.

The Mustangs (2-1) continue silver bracket play Friday at 4:45 p.m. against Laguna Hills.

El Toro 73, Newport Harbor 69

ANAHEIM — Nate Harding and Colin Pipkin scored 21 points each to lead the Sailors in a Gold Bracket opening game of the Godinez Tournament at Loara High on Thursday.

Charlie Stassel added 17 points for Newport Harbor (2-1).

The Sailors play against Capistrano Valley in a consolation game Friday at 7:45 p.m. at Loara.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Corona del Mar 4, Ontario Christian 1

Hailey Neumann, Alyssa McKenzie, Ally Doherty and Sydney Rosen all scored for the Sea Kings in Thursday’s Sunny Hills tournament game at CdM.

Ava McKenzie and Katherine Caston each had assists for CdM (1-0). Kat Hess made one save in the first half, and Skyler Gullick had two in the second half.

CdM opens play in the Aliso Cup tournament when it plays Hart on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Jim Scott Stadium. The Sea Kings play rival Newport Harbor on Tuesday at 3:15 at CdM, also as part of the Aliso Cup.

Newport Harbor 1, Woodbridge 1

IRVINE — Junior forward Sianna Siemonsma scored the goal for the Sailors in Thursday’s nonleague game.

Siemonsma now has four goals in Newport’s first two games. She had a hat trick in the Sailors’ 3-0 win over Fullerton on Tuesday.

Newport Harbor Coach Larry Draluck also highlighted the play of freshman defensive midfielder Emily Johnson.

The Sailors (1-0-1) play at Santa Margarita on Friday to start the Brentwood tournament.

Sage Hill 9, Saddleback Valley Christian 0

Lexi Magliarditi and Claire Novotny each scored three goals and had two assists for the Lightning in Tuesday’s nonleague season opener at home.

Marina Wild scored twice for Sage Hill, and Taylor Magliarditi had a goal and an assist. Kayla Gratzer-Lindel made three saves.

Sage Hill plays at Maranatha on Friday.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Orange 49, Sage Hill 31

CYPRESS — Kenna Knollenberg scored 12 points to lead the Lightning in a conoslation game of the Oxford Academy tournament on Thursday.

Sage Hill (1-2) will play against rival St. Margaret’s in another consolation game on Saturday at 3 p.m.

St. Joseph 58, Estancia 37

CYPRESS — Finley Garnett and Nefertiti Van Den Heever each scored 12 for the Eagles in Wednesday’s Oxford Academy tournament game.

Van Den Heever and Sam Wagner each pulled down 12 rebounds.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Estancia 1, Segerstrom 0

Adan Rodriguez scored in the 25th minute, off an assist from Kevin Pizarro, in the Eagles’ season opener at home on Wednesday.

Jonathan Lopez made five saves for Estancia.

The Eagles play host to Huntington Beach on Friday at 5 p.m.
